Perranporth Cornwall

A smallish coastal resort located on Cornwall’s north coast, Perranporth is about 6 miles from the well known surfing town of Newquay, and just 7 miles from Truro, it is in the Perranzabuloe parish and has a resident population of just over 3,000. Taking its name from the patron saint of Cornwall (St Piran), it is thought that the Saint founded a church in Perranporth in the 7th century, this church was rediscovered early in the 20th century after hundreds of years buried in the sand. Like Newquay, Perranporth is popular with surfers, as the sea here can get quite rough, it is also popular as a holiday destination, and there are several caravan parks and camping sites nearby, also the Perran Sands Holiday Park, which is currently owned by the Haven group. Perran Beach is backed by a considerable area of sand dunes, which stretch inland for almost a mile.
